The BBC carried a nice piece about something you don't hear enough about. The legacy of the Islamic civilization, especially as it related to science. Long before Isaac Newton, there was al-Hassan Ibn al-Haytham.

The contribution to the knowledge of the human civilization by the likes of al-Hassan Ibn al-Haytham, Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Ibn Rushd (Averroes), AlKhawarizmi (founder of algebra, algorithms, etc), and others have long been neglected as a result of historical revisionism...

It's refreshing to see credit where it is properly due. Now if only the Muslim peoples could get their act together and get back to the ideals that made them the leaders of the world during the supposed "Dark Ages". Instead of looking like fools, as aptly illustrated by this genius below:
