The humanitarian catastrophe in Pakistan is one that deserves every one of our attention. When I first heard the news, and the claims of it being worse than the Tsunami, I was skeptical. But the evidence is tremendous, and the tragedy is extremely serious. The satellite images that have been broadcast to illustrate the flooding are horrifying. Where villages stood is now water. What was a river meters wide is now 20 km wide. If you would like to see for yourself visit the BBC or Satellite Imaging Corp
We all need to do what we can to assist those in severe need right now.
If you have a preferred charity, contact them to see if they are collecting supplies or strictly monetary aid, and give what you can. A few suggestions:
- Oxfam International
- International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies or your local red cross/red crescent
- Mercy USA for Relief and Development
- Islamic Relief
- Doctors without Borders
- Islamic Medical Association
